Tips for SCJP 1.5 Success

Today I am going to share some of the tips which helped me succeed in the SCJP 1.5 certification. Although reading books oriented for the exam is one way of studying for the exam but certainly it's a time consuming and long process which would take a longer time as compared to other things available in the market. Some of the ways which I found quite innovative and helpful are mentioned below. Hope many of you would find them useful and easier way to get through the exam.

1. Grab a copy of Kathy Sieera and Bert Bates "Head First Java" series if you have not done so already. This is an extremely recommended book and sureshot way of passing the exam as it is extremely lucid and concepts are presented with such clarity that they just fit into your mind like a writing on the stone. You can find it here: HEAD FIRST JAVA

2. Buy Whizlabs Simulator for SCJP 1.5 which contains hundreds of questions relevant to the exam and many mock tests which are very similar what you get to see in the exam. These tests will really build a strong foundation and put you at ease before you face the real exam. You can get the full version here ( with patch).

3. Refer the SCJP 1.5 certification book from Kathy sierra modeled especially for this particular exam and read each and every chapter and make sure you complete the exercises given at the end of each chapter so that you get a deep understanding of the concepts presented by the authors. Nothing should be expected out from this book as this book is supposed to be made just for the exam. I read this book over 3-4 times before I could appreciate the beauty of the concepts and hence I was well prepared for the D-Day. You can find the eBook here.

4.Lastly, nothing helps you better than hard work. If you start today, you should be able to complete the book in about a month or so.Simultaneously, do revise the concepts given in the Head First if you don't understand it in the certification book. Once you are done with the book, start off doing the questions from the Whizlabs Simulator. And then proceed to do the mock tests. They will certainly increase your chances of clearing the exam.

5. Do revise the summary points at the end of each chapter of the certification book before the day of the exam. This will make sure you remember anything very quickly and recall the main points instantly.

6. Make sure you do solve some examples given in Head First as only reading would not help you out. Practicing the examples is also very essential in order so that you get the idea of what you are trying to achieve.

Wishing all the best to the SCJP 1.5 aspirants and hope you all come out with flying colors!!

Ram Setu - A wasted dialouge

I received a small joke from one of my friends over the current issue of destroying the ram setu and constructing a canal instead which is causing a heated debate in the country over the last few months. It's not a attempt to make fun over it but it highlights the crude truth behind it..It follows here..

Jai Shri Ram,
The Lord surveyed the Ram Setu and said "Hanuman, how diligently and strenuously you and your vanara sena had built this bridge several centuries back.
It is remarkable that it has withstood the ravages of the climatic and geographical changes over centuries. It is indeed an amazing feat especially considering the fact that a bridge at Hyderabad built by Gammon using latest technology collapsed the other day even before they could stick the posters on its pillars." The story of recent collapse of Minniapples-USA bridge is also worth a mention.
Hanuman with all humility spoke "Jai Sri Ram, it is all because of your grace. We just scribbled your name on the bricks and threw them in the sea and they held. No steel from TISCO or cement from Ambuja or ACC was ever used. But Lord, why rake up the old issue now."
Ram spoke "Well, Hanuman some people down there want to demolish the bridge and construct a canal. The contract involves lot of money and lot of money will be made. They will make money on demolition and make more money on construction. "
Hanuman humbly bowed down and said "Why not we go down and present our case"
Ram said "Times have changed since we were down there. They will ask us to submit age proof and we don't have either a birth certificate or school leaving certificate. We traveled mainly on foot and some times in bullock carts and so we don't have a driving license either. As far as the address proof is concerned the fact that I was born at Ayodhya is itself under litigation for over half
a century, If I go in a traditional attire with bow and arrow, the ordinary folks may recognize me but Arjun Singh may take me to be some tribal and, at the most, offer a seat at IIT under the reserved category. Also, a God cannot walk in dressed in a three-piece suit and announce his arrival. It would make even the devotees suspicious. So it is dilemma so to say."
"I can vouch for you by saying that I personally built the bridge."
"My dear, Anjani putra, it will not work. They will ask you to produce the lay-out plan, the project details, including financial outlay and how the project cost was met and the completion certificate. Nothing is accepted without documentary evidence in India . You may cough but unless a doctor certifies it, you have no cough. A pensioner may present himself personally but the authorities do not take it as proof. He has to produce a life-certificate to prove that he is alive. It is that complicated. "
"Lord, I can't understand these historians. Over the years you have given darshan once every hundred years to saints like Surdas, Tulsidas, Saint Thyagaraja, Jayadeva, Bhadrachala Ramdas and even Sant Tukaram and still they disbelieve your existence and say Ramayana is a myth. The only option, I see, is to re-enact Ramayana on earth and set the government records straight once for all."
Lord smiled "It isn't that easy today. Ravan is apprehensive that he may look like a saint in front of Karunanidhi. I also spoke to his mama Mareecha, who appeared as a golden deer to tempt Sita maiyya when I was in the forest and he said that he won't take a chance of stepping on earth as long as Salman Khan is around."

Being in Business

Today's article is all about Stocks. I always wondered how the stock market really works and I'm still puzzled till date when i hear people talking about stocks all the time. Is it so intriguing and interesting that you can be a millionaire out of it? Or is it so mysetrious and risky that you loose what you have gained in all these years in just a single day. This is really a gamble and if you play it well, you certainly are on the top of your brains! But if you loose, you are out and it's very difficult to gain a strong foothold again. So, I am unfolding you some of the very basics of stocks and how they work. This is not intended to be an exhaustive tutorial but atleast it will provide some insights into the workings of the worlds favorite economy.

The first step for you to understand the stock market is to understand stocks.
A share of stock is the smallest unit of ownership in a company. If you own a share of a company’s stock, you are a part owner of the company.

You have the right to vote on members of the board of directors and other important matters before the company. If the company distributes profits to shareholders, you will likely receive a proportionate share.

One of the unique features of stock ownership is the notion of limited liability. If the company loses a lawsuit and must pay a huge judgment, the worse that can happen is your stock becomes worthless. The creditors can’t come after your personal assets. That’s not necessarily true in private-held companies.

There are two types of stock:

Common stock
Preferred stock

Common Stock
Common stock represents the majority of stock held by the public. It has voting rights, along with the right to share in dividends.
When you hear or read about “stocks” being up or down, it always refers to common stock.

Preferred Stock
Despite its name, preferred stock has fewer rights than common stock, except in one important area – dividends. Companies that issue preferred stocks usually pay consistent dividends and preferred stock has first call on dividends over common stock.
Investors buy preferred stock for its current income from dividends, so look for companies that make big profits to use preferred stock to return some of those profits via dividends.

Liquidity
Another benefit of common stocks is that they are highly liquid for the most part. Small and/or obscure companies may not trade frequently, but most of the larger companies trade daily creating an opportunity to buy or sell shares.
Thanks to the stock markets, you can buy or sell shares of most publicly traded companies almost any day the markets are open.

That's it for today but this series will continue with much more coming in the days to come. Hope you enjoyed this small article. Will be back tomorrow with more..

Happy Blogging!

Exclusion of Dravid. Is it fair?

It's no wonder that the selection committe has added yet another twist in the turn by excluding the ex-captain of the Indian Cricket team who once lead the side on his own terms. Judging a player by his performance in mere 5 ODI's is by no means a way of dumping him out of the team and passing remarks on his calibre. A player like Dravid is an indispensable element in any team no matter what and is useful in all the critical conditions when most other players loose their temparament. If the selectors are thriving on the recent victory of the Indian Team in the T20's, it's just not fair. The new youngsters in the team are very young and they still need to be groomed under the guidance of the senior players which here are the Trio (Saurav, Sachin and Dravid). It's just the wave of celebration and triumph that seems to be influencing the minds of selectors who have such a short vision of the future of the Indian Team. If we go by what dilip vengsarkar said, we all know what he means rather than what he says in the public. It's got be a sinister attempt under the hood to end the career of the seniors and gradually dump them out of the Team for an excuse of indulging the young generation into the team. There is no way in which we can justify Dravid being kept out of the first two ODI's in sight of the future series coming up against Australia and South Africa. Dravid has given so much to the Indian team in the past and he is capable of transitioning all his experience in the present scenario too. It's just that he deserves a better chance in the current series against Pakistan and he certainly will bounce back in the team soon!
